Hey everyone, just out of curiosity, I have an 1987 Outrage that I'ml re-powering this summer. At the moment, I'm debating on the E-TEC 115 or 130. Out of the three 115's they weigh between 375 & 390 lbs., and the 130 is @ 405 lbs., all with 25 inch shaft. Anyway, just curious if any of you guys are powered with the E-TECS and have any suggestions as far as which one, for performance, fuel economy, etc... price difference between the two is about $1000- difference, Thanks..!!!!!

Jamiek,

I am somewhat going through the same decision.

However, I am considering the E-Tec 130 or the E-Tec 150
The E-Tec 130 weighs 22 pounds less than the 150 which isn't much but I also plan to add the E-Tec 9.9 kicker whenever that things comes out.

I would suggest the E-Tec 130 which is probably the way I am going to go. (not positive yet)

Thanks Joe, Yeah, I'm kinda torn between the two. Let me know what you decide because I have to make the decision by the end of the month. They're gonna take the boat mid March. I thought about the 150 but, It's a couple thousand more, heavier, and truthfully, speed is not to much of my concern, although for the right price , sure !!!

Hi Nic110,

Yes, I see that you have an E-Tec 150 from the photos in your personal page.
Very nice. I bet it really moves out. What's the top speed in mph?

Jamiek,
I have been waiting for the 9.9 E-Tec to come out. I want to do both engines at the same time. I keep hearing rumors that they should have been out already but then the rumors go quiet.

I'm not a speed demon either but there might be times when you want just a little more power than the 115 will give you. I would definitely go 130 instead of 115.

Check out the article In Boating World this month regarding the test results on the E-TEC 115 and 130 . Fuel for thought.

Where are you from Jamiek? I am in the same boat as you in CT. I am nervous the etec 130 will be alittle under powerd to pull tubes and skiers so I was leaning towards the 150. But my quote was 1,800 less for the 130 and that was more in my price range so I am torn with my decision. I started this whole search with a used motor in mind, so you can see how I am creeping out of budget. What are you hearing in regards to having enough power with the 130? By the way my boat is a 1986 Outrage 18'.

Basically the article say that the good folks at Evinrude did nothing more than change decals on the two engines. When tested they have identical Time to plane 3.5 seconds, 0-25 mph 7.4 seconds. Top speed was 43.9 mph The boat they used was Alumacraft 175.

While they are still the lightest in class at 405 pounds. the weight was increased by 36 pounds in part due to the new two way induction system and because they are now 1.4 inches taller.

Now they did go on to explain that there a number of boats out there that have a maximun horsepower rating of 115 that could use this motor. If you can read the article, you could possibly get more out of it than I.

I recommend the E-TEC 150 for the classic Outrage 18.

Hey regentsbay, was that between the 115 & the 130 on the alumicraft ?? I'm actually in Stamford, CT @ the moment. I guess if the difference is not so dramatic, I'll go with the 115 for less weight on the transom and less $ (plus I could get it in blue, I heard the 130 you can't although I have seen them blue on the internet), If certain things will put more stress on the 155 then naturally, I'll lean towards the 130 & of course depe1ding on fuel economy,I may go that way. So basically, what I'm trying to say is I'm losing my mind, running out of time, and have to make the decision within a few short weeks, thanks for the replies guys !!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure at this point either. I would like to get my hands on a copy of the Boating World magazine.

I may just pop for the 150 but would like to hear from Jamiek if you do buy the 115.

Yes, both the 115 and the 130 were run on the Alumacraft 175 Dominator Sport. By there test, the results were

Time to plane 3.5 seconds

0-25 7.4 seconds

Top speed 49.9 mph

Joe, If you have a fax just PM your number and I will fax the article to you, it's just 3 pages.

This is a funny thread because I had REALLY wanted an e-Tec for my 19 project. Here was the way things went for me:

1 - A 115 sure would be nice on my 19 lo-pro.
2 - What do you mean the 130 is coming out.
3 - Well if you are looking at the 130 you ought to buy a last year new 150 for the same money.
4 - Well if you are going to get a 150 why not get the 175 for a few extra bucks - after all they weigh they same.
5 - Excited about the 175 can run back at 3000 RPM's for better fuel economy and still be pushing 35+ mph?
6 - Excited about the 175 because a friend with 175 on his lo-pro gets 57 mph. Cool Have it if you need it!
7 - End up getting a GREAT deal on a Yamaha 150 4-stroke so no more e-Tec.

I am by no means a power hog but it can be frustrating when you are trying to keep up with a buddy who has more power. These boats handle the bigger engines so well it just makes sense to have it there if you need it.

I think Kamie runs a Outrage 18 with an ETEC 175.

Was the testing of the 115 and 130 with identical setup (same prop, load, conditions etc). Getting accurate performance results is hard. Many testers don't use identical setups so comparisons are not easy.

Hello, I do not know the maximum speed with 1 person to edge, have used only 10 hours and 4 persons to edge and the maximum speed approximately 75 Kmh.

Ciao
