I have 2 stern light's that are shorties on the back
Reason for two: more light, and so you can see a stern light from both sides of the hull (engine cover blocks one light) at night. I wanted to put a single 1 meter high light in the back as I don't want the boat to look confusing at night to other mariners (2 stern light's = 2 boats). I'm having trouble finding the right one, all I can find is the straight stick type, do they make one, or do I have to bend one up ? I need it to fold down for fishing.
Attwood makes a folding light. I saw it at Cabelas part no. 0g-019453. Two lights are illegal like you said, 2 boats.
Also seasense.com has a telescoping sternlight also.
You are not going to find anything like the original light Whaler used, off-the-shelf.
Just buy the correct stern light from a Whaler dealer. It will be the right length, and be of a much higher quality that anything you buy from a chandlery.
With the turn of a knob, this light just lifts out when you do not need it.
i was at the Atlantic City boat show today. I looked over the new Montauk 170. Lots more room than I thought. Nice looking boat. The stern light was detachable and about 4 feet long. It was stored alongside the gaff and fishing poles. For a sec I thought it was another gaff.
