I recently bought a Bluesea PN5018 6 circuit fuse block to help with the rewiring of my 1987 15' SS Whaler. The fuse block does not have a neg bus. It has a "stud" where i see i can attach the positive wire from the battery. My question is, where do i attach the negative wire from the battery to the fuse block.

I am also replacing the 12volt "cigarette ligther"type power socket, do i wire it directly to the battery or can i attach it to the fuse block, if the fuse block, what size fuse do i use

In most of the rewiring I have done, you have a terminal block for the positive and a separate one for the negative. Yes you can wire the cigarette lighter to the fuse block and tie the negative to the rest of the others. As for the size fuse, I am not familiar with that Blue Sea model, but if it has one fuse for the whole block, you will want to add up the amps that all the electronics on it can handle and size the fuse accordingly. If it has separate fuses for each of the connections, then the fuse would be the one recommended for that piece of electronic equipment. Cigarette lighters you should look at what you are plugging into them to size the fuse. Hope this helps.

Good luck!Grin

On the Blue Seas website I clearly see a negitive and positive terminals for PN5018. They are located opposite each other on the bottom end of the fuse block. You should be able to see them on your block. They may not be labeled Pos. and Neg. but that really dosen't matter, as long as you know which one you chose for which bus.

Mike, unfortunately the fuse block you purchased does not have a negative bus bar integrated into it. You will need to purchase a separate bus bar to provide negative terminations. The model 5015 has an integrated negative bus.

As for 12v accessory receptacles, the amp rating will be determined by the gauge wire and corresponding fuse rating you choose. I would recommend having it fuse protected in some fashion.

Also limited by the rating of the receptacle itself. Cigarette lighters usually run on a 15 amp fuse, but your new one should be labeled.

And x2 on using a fused circuit. Don't connect anything directly to the battery without circuit protection. .02 Smile
