I am with Sikorsky Aircraft Fire Dept. and we have a 1966 17ft boston whaler. We are having the entire boat sanded, re-fiberglass and painted. We are looking at putting in a stand up center console. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions. If you have any pictures that would be great also.

Lots of photos here on this site.
Here is an article for standard center consoles.

Also take a look in the Whaler Models Specification section:

If you are going through the trouble of repainting the entire hull you should contact Mike @ Nauticallumber (site sponsor). He remakes the vintage OEM consoles for your hull. If you do not want one that is that fancy he is also able to craft anything you can think up.

How do you run the steering cable from the center console back to the engine? Do you have to go through the Hull or run the cable along the side of the boat? If we modify the boat and put a center console will their be any stabiliy problems with the boat??

I am having the same issue trying to convert my 13 to a center console. I will post as I find things out. So far I have read on some documents by Teleflex, a company that makes steering and control components and other things, that the cables can be bent up to an 8 inch radius without compromising thier function, however multiple bends may cause some issues. (I think this was for the throttle and shift cables, but it should be the same for the steering cable I would think.) I plan on running the front bench seat to butt up against the console front and running the cables from the motor up the gunnel and under the bench seat, then into the front of the console. If this bench seat option was not available for me, I think I would have had to make a tunnel into the floor. See my thread...

Rather than drill a tunnel, consider running the cable on the floor to the stern and use a cover. While I don't know the technical name, they are used on Carolina Skiff style boats.

All 16' and 17' models should already have the rigging tunnel built into the hull.

any stability issues with having a center console with a 17 ft currituck. Before with the previous console it sat toward the rear of the boat. We want to make sure if we move the new console forwarded that there will not be a stability or performance problem.

All the 16' hulls are the same. Only the interiors are different.

You will not have a stability issue at all. That hull is very stable.
That hull also already has a rigging tunnel. As Joe points out, all the 16' hulls are the same.
I recommend a fiberglass center console as opposed to an aesthetically pleasing and historically accurate wood console for your commercial service.

Oops. Thats right. You can just run them in there.
(Wish I had one. I do not want to cut the deck, but with the low freeboard on the 13, I don't want one above deck on the floor to be a tripping hazard either. I hope I can run them down the gunnel.)
