I know I took these measurements but I can't find the paper I wrote them on and the boat and tape measure are 100 miles apart.

On a classic 13 hull
1. What is the distance from the front wall to either the bow or the front wall to the inside of the transom.

2. What is the distance between the sides, inside of the lip. alternative how wide is the lip. I know the seats are 53.875 inches wide so I assume the total width is 54 inches including the lip.

3. What is the distance from the deck to the seat, or basically how high can a gas tank be.

Thanks

Yes, clarification would be nice. I could take measurements off of my 1966 13' too.

By front wall, I am basically looking for the foward bulk head that separated the passenger section from the bow locker and the bow area. I am sure there is another name, but it escapes me.

In the photo below, from the forward section to either the bow or better from there back to the inside of transom

Kamie, I was about to measure my `61 13 footer, but now I`m confused by your last post. When you say you want a measurement to the transom, where on the transom as it is radiased. I was about to measure from the inside of the straight splashwell to the back of the vertical end of the front deck. If you want to put a fuel tank under the rear seat, I believe West Marine has a 10 or 12 gallon tank that will fit, but the downside is you will have to cut a hole in the thwart to fill the tank.

straight back, ignoring the radius. I actually have the measurements for the radius. I am still debating the gas tank, and that will really depend on the ultimate seats. If I go with thwart seat, located on the lip as in the sport, then the gas tank will be small. If I go with a rear seat, similar to Erik's with the seat raise on top of the seat clamps, then I can go with a larger tank, probably located under the rear thwart seat.

Right now, it's all moving around on graph paper Smile

Think about moving the whole interior forward 4". From my own and Eriks findings the boat rides better, and is less prone to porpoise. A standard plastic gas tank will fit under the rear thwart if it is raised 4", but then you need to build a console that is 4" higher to avoid having to crouch over the wheel.

My seats and side rails were moved forward about 4-6 inches and I have NO issues at all with purpoising and it does ride much nicer.

Ok

#1 - 119 1/4" from the center of the front bulkhead to the inside center of the transom.

#2 - Inside to inside of the top of the lip the seats rests on is 54 1/4"

#3 - the closest point between the floor and the bottom of my seat is 7 1/4" TIGHT.

ouachita,
thanks for the measurements. For #2 how wide it the lip itself?

I believe that if I move the whole interior forward 4-6 inches that puts the distance between the rear thwart seat and the transom about 46 inches?

My boat didn't have the standard interior, it had after market consoles and swivel seats.

As for gas tanks, looks like there are 3 options, assuming it sits under the rear thwart seat

12 gallon or 15 gallon with seat flush on the lip
18 gallon with the seat raised

Kamie,
What power are you using on the 13. I ask because with those tank options you should be able to make a couple of trips from Jersey to Va Beach! With the 40 hp TLDI Nissan on my 13 I ran about 60 miles LOADED(3 adults, 2 ice chests, much fishing gear) and about 1/4 of it at wot and only burned just under 5 gallons. Do you want a tank that big in there? I contacted a local welder to see about making a tank to put under (and attached to the underside) the forward thwart seat. It would go all the way across, taper toward the bottom, and be about 4" deep and hold about 7 gallons. I never did figure it out in detail. That's just a guess, but I think pretty close. That would leave all the floor space open, give a little weight to the front, eliminate the need to move the helm forward, and allow you to cruise a LONG way.
Just for info. Not trying to sway you.
Mike

WOW! those are pretty big tanks to put on a 13. I sold a 14 gallon tempo about a year ago and only use a six gallon tank now. Even with my 25 year old motor, I still get pretty good gas mileage.

Will you be running a 2 or 4 stroke engine? How many HP? 18 gallons X 7 lb per gallon = 126 + 40lbs. for a battery = 166lbs. Like having an extra person in the back seat. I have a 25 4 stroke and only have a 6 gallon + a spare 1 gallon can. Never needed it though.

The 13 currently has a 1991 30HP Evinrude on it. I am assuming it actually runs, never tried it. I doubt I would install that large a tank on the 13, but it depends on how I end up using the boat. If I end up leaving it in the water on a lift, then I will likely get a larger tank rather than carry carry gas and just pull the boat twice a season to fill the tank.

Sorry, I did not pay close enough attention to what you wanted for #2.

The lip is 1" plus or minus a 1/16" depending on where I measure it.

kamie, You know I'm not down at Das HOuse to measure for you assuming the dimensions are the same for the different model years, but for a point of reference, I use the two metal red gas cans, each 6 gallons and have had a hard time using all the gas in one can all summer longSmile I know i didn't use it much but with a 35 hP 2stroke, it sips gas...so not sure you need the over kill of 18 gallons...

That being said, my seats are set up for the 13 sport situation and I just leave the tanks behind the back seat. We can put the two boats together and see how they lay out once I get free from my medical chores hereSmile)and I know a great place that has wood, planners and serious commercial wood working tooks to fashion the wood interior if you likeSmile Ill send you pics of "CygNet" tonite

Thanks Henry,
I think I have all the info I need for now. As for wood working, the place I purchase my wood does what I need. It would be nice to have room for a shop, but that would imply there wasn't any junk in the garage.
