I am converting a '79 13' sport to a center console, and upgrading the cable and pulley system with this teleflex system http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/...ing+System to accomodate the center console helm location. I plan on maintaining the fore thwart seat and mounting it fore of the console with a cushion and backrest against the console's front. I have two questions about this.

1. I plan to run the cable from the engine up the starboard gunnel behind the seat clamp, then along the bottom of the thwart seat and into the console. Is the steering cable flexible enough to accomodate this routing? (I have ordered a system with a 15' cable because of all the detours.)

2. Because of the plan mentioned above, my motor controls are no longer suitable as they previously mounted on the starboard gunnel, meaning they would be on the port side of the console if I were to use them. I would like to run the cables in a similar fashion along with the steering in some flexible conduit like this... http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/s...ogId=10053 The motor is a 1981 35hp Johnson Seahorse. I am trying to determine which motor controls would work best, or will work at all. I have tried to locate controls that will either be top mount (with a small footprint) or mountable to the starboard side of the console. Can you provide any recommendations on controls that will work with this system? I am trying to stay on the small side, and relatively budget conscious, but not to the point of buying junk or ugly stuff.

As always, thanks for the input.

---John

I'm not quite sure of your routing, but look at the last photo on my personal page and see if this is close to what are are talking about............Mine goes up the Starboard side and the through the Thwart seat mounts and into the consol

I see now that you are converting to a CC so my setup would probably be of no help to you

On the contrary, it does, I wish I could get a drawing on here. You see, I am intending to keep the fore thwart seat and butt the console up to it and run the cables on the underside of the thwart seat. It essentially will be just like yours, except instead of going from the gunnel to the console directly, they will exit the clamp on the gunnel and run under the thwart seat, then into the console which will be slightly farther to port.
