I recently purchased a 1987 Montauk and I am looking to install a VHF, CD Player, and GPS. I know the VHF I want, and I have a Pioneer CD Player with Kicker Marine Speakers ready to install. I was wondering what is the best way to mount the CD Player, whether in the console in a radio box or flush mount it with a splash cover. I would love any comments/suggestions/pictures about the best way to mount and best types of radio box/splash cover. Would also love some suggestions for an economical GPS that performs well. Thanks to all!
I can't be of much help on the CD player but I think I would mount it in the console where it is as dry as possible.
Here is a link to some pictures of my last Montauk. The VHF was flush mounted, the fish finder on the stbd side of the console and after the picture was taken I installed a portable Garmin GPS on the port side.
