I made a mistake of asking my friend to hook up the battery for my 25 Nissan...only one problem he switched the neg and positive wires and I did not catch it. I turned the key once and it did not start So I checked the battery and caught what he did. Switched it back to the correct way and not NOTHING works. I can't use the trim/tilt or turn the engine over. I hope its something minor like a fuse but I can't seem to locate any.......HELP!!!
Hey Bones, no problem, I just finished rigging my New Merc 25 FI 4 stroke, same motor exactly as the Tohatsu/ Nisson 25 4 stroke. Not paying attention, I hooked up the battery backwards. (never did this before in many years of fooling with outboards) When I did it I saw a small spark when I hooked the positive to the ground. I switched it back so it was correct, and turned the key, Nothing. Figured it was a fuse, so I looked up fuse in the small manual they give you with the motor. Look on the starboard side of the block. You will find a small yellow plug like thing up near the flywheel. This is where the fuse (20 amp) and spare fuse holder is located. Just pull the top off, and take out the spare fuse, and then replace it with the blown fuse. Problem solved, but remember to buy another fuse and replace it in the fuse holder.
