I would like to rewire the bow light. Do wires run through the hull or under the rubrail? I am sorry if it's a dumb question. I just became member of this site.

Originally they ran through the hull. When restoring if old wires are useless then run them under the rubrail insert.

No such thing as dumb questions on this site, if you don't know, don't be afraid to ask... That's part of the reason we're all here!

You can replace the rubrail with a new one available through Whaler dealers for about $105. If you can take off the center insert of your old one, you might be able to bury the wires in there. I have never tried this, however, and as difficult as it is to install a new rubrail, it might be really hard to reinstall the old center insert.

After the rubrail gets riveted or screwed on there is an insert to cover it.

As mentioned, the wires to the bow light of a Sourpuss run under the rub rail insert (the black part) of the three piece Barbour rub rail. All Sourpuss models have this rub rail so all you need to do is pull the insert out and you should find the old wiring.
Because there is not much room under the rub rail insert, relatively small wire was used. Whaler typically used just lamp cord ("zip cord") to feed the bow lights. This sort of non-marine wire does not hold well at all and needs to be replaced periodically.
ANCOR makes great tinned marine grade wire but their 16 gauge duplex wire has a sheath that rendered it far too large for use under the rub rail insert. I have found an excellent substitute in their 16 gauge speaker wire which is fully tinned yet small enough to fit easily within the rub rail insert. It is more modestly priced as well.
Do not skimp by using a lighter gauge of wire like 18 gauge or 22 gauge, The light will work at first but it will soon corrode to the point where too much resistance is present for the light to operate reliably.

If you pull the rubrail out can you then put it back, or do you have to replace it with a new one? What holds the insert in place? Thank you everyone for your help.

The rub rail insert snaps into the receiver track. It can easily be removed and reinstalled many times. Use soapy water and some heat to make the installation easier.
