Here are some pics of one I built from aluminum and mahogany for $45, and a weekends work. Its adjustable to 5" up or down. It allows me to run different motors, and easily adjust to different running heights.

Binkie. Nice work on the Jackplate. I see you've also replaced the classic Evinrude you once were using and in it's place is a Johnson. When you get a chance, update your Personal Page, we'd like to see what else you've done to your 13'.

Once again, nice work.

Cliff, no, the `58 Evinrude Lark hasn`t been replaced, at least not permanently. The Johnson will be my fishing and salt water motor. The `58 Lark, and another `56 Lark, that I will be working on shortly will be the motors that I will use on the `13 footer, when taking the boat to the AOMCI (Antique Outboard Motor Club ) meets. The Larks have never seen salt water, so why start now. Also they are thirsty, and run on a 24:1 oil mix. The whole idea of the bracket, is so I can easily and quickly change motors mounted at different heights for different occasions. They are all electric start, and the challenge is to leave the 3 wiring harnesses installed in the boat, and mostly hidden from sight, not easy in a 13 footer. The harness for the `58 Lark is a plug into the motor type and is permanently installed, but the others so far are not. I don`t think a dashboard full of 3 different starting switches and keys would look good.

I have a 1993 40hp Mercury and I am not very handy, I would like to buy a pre-fab I can adjust in the boat, I have a overheat problem because I think the motor is mounted to high. I like what you have done, but I would like a prefab

Thanks

Bigut,
I would say the only real reason to install a jackplate on an early 13 footer with a 15" transom would to be able to install a long shaft engine on an early boat. I would think your overheating problem would come from another reason. If you just mount the motor down on the transom, you couldn't`t be to high. Is your boat a 20" or 15" transom? You are not mounting a short shaft motor on a long shaft transom, are you? that would cause an overheating problem. You would then need a bracket with enough offset to allow you to tilt the motor up fully.
