Hi Darryl,

What brand of motor?
What size?
What year?

Give us a little more info so we might be able to point you in the right direction.
Anything is fixable if the parts are available.

Darryl,

What size "Horsepower" is the engine ? This is "Whaler Central", the most powerful "Think Tank" known to the "Whaler" community, let's get some more information before we condemn your engine.

Darryl,
I'm far from being a pro on this but it sounds like fuel delivery to me. First thing to me is make sure you have fresh gas. That can't hurt but I think you need to clean and maybe put a kit in your carb. I'm not sure if that 2 cyulinder 55 has one or two, but sounds like they definitely need cleaning.

Sounds to me a bit like vapor lock, where the fuel in the carbs is so warm it turns to vapor and makes re-starting the engine after it's warm difficult. Sometimes you can run the same trip with the cowling off to allow the carbs and powerhead to run cooler, and if it restarts fine, that may be the issue... It's an easy test to try.

More questions:

1. How long do you sit before you try again?
2. What if you just get moving and moving, never stop? Does the problem come up?

If it does not re-start when hot, try to hold open the butterflies on the carbs while starting (be careful of the flywheel, it's close to your hand) if it fires right up (when they are held open) it's "Vapor lock", when you say it won't re-start is it "Cranking over" but, will NOT "Light Up" ? sound's like a "Carb" adjustment/service. Some engines need "Choke" on while restarting "HOT", on some engine's the choke is not needed to "fire up" when "Hot".
