What's the best way to install electronics such as: VHF radio, chart plotter, depth sounder, etc?

I want to flush mount some of the components onto the face of the console (190 Nantucket) and I'm not sure how to drill and/or cut into the surface.

Is the console Marine plywood with gelcoat or is it fiberglass?

Livingwater,

There are many different methods and tools to use. Some better, some worse.
I don't have the fancy tools so I just used a hole saw and a fine tooth hacksaw blade.
Carefully of course.
Check this article out and the method I used to cut the hole. This particular section of the console did not have plywood behind it although I have used the same method on other parts of the console.

If you have fancier tools and know how to use them, then you are more fortunate than I.

I have used both a rotozip and a jigsaw for these jobs. If at all possible I will use the jigsaw first. The rotozip has a tendency to get out of control on me. But for tigth areas it is the way to go. Just practice on a scrap piece of wood etc. before taking the rotozip to your console. If they give you a template great, cut through the template if not use masking tape, mark the tape and cut through the tape.
