I'm looking for classic BW owners along or around the Texas Gulf Coast. Would love for a group of us to get together. Let me hear from any and all

Not many Whaler owners around my parts north of Dallas. To find any Classic Whaler owners is even more difficult. I'd be willing to travel to meet up with some fellow Classic owners.

With that jacked up trailer you got? You couldn't even get out of the yard.

I live in Austin and fish & gig from Baffin Bay to Port O' Connor to San Luis Pass! I also fish all the beautiful highland lakes around the hill country with the occasional summer junket to L Texoma. Have '70 Katama - will travel!! Paul

Hello from Corpus Christi! Usually cruise the canals and run out Packery channel to the gulf. Just purchased my boat last July, so still in the middle of the refurb effort. I think its a great idea to get fellow Whalers together for an occasional group cookout/boating outing!

BOB, I'M IN KATY HAVE A 1970 EASTPORT LIKE YOURS! NOT THAT CLEAN THOUGH AS I'VE BEEN WADING FROM IT FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS , MOSTLY OUT OF MATY. I'VE GOT IT IN MY GARAGE AT THE HOUSE AND HAVE A NEWER BOAT ( SEA CHASER FLATS 180 ) IN THE STORAGE DOWN IN WADSWORTH. I HAVE THE HULL CURRENTLY STRIPPED WAITING FOR THE TRANSOM TO DRY! HAD A SPLIT IN THE AFT THRU-HULL TUBE . GELCOAT AND NON-SKID IS ORIGINAL AND IN GREAT SHAPE. REFINISHED THE CONSOLE AND BENCH 3 YEARS AGO , STILL LOOKS REAL NICE. I'VE RUN A HONDA 50 WITH A JACK PLATE SINCE '02. MY DAD PURCHASED THE BOAT IN '76 FROM THE ORIG OWNER AND HAD IT IN CHICAGO/MILWAUKEE AREA UNTILL I PULLED IT DOWN HERE IN '99. I'M ALSO RECONFIGURING MY TRAILER TO CARRY A WHALER WITH KEEL-CENTER ROLLERS AND AM LOOKING FOR SOME PHOTOS, INFO. SUGGESTIONS...
REGARDS, THE BLACK DRUM, KATY, TX.

I finally talked my Dad out of his baby (1973 Cohassette II + original 80 Hp Merc) & will be starting the restoration soon. The good news is the work needed is mostly cosmetic. Tx reqiuires a "pencil tracing" of the HIN because I'm transfering it from Ohio registration. I'm assuming it's the number molded into the transom just to the left of the main motor mount (looking from the rear). I am a T-38 Simulator Instructor @ Laughlin AFB so its primary use will be fishing Lake Amistad. I will be setting up a site & posting progress pictures soon.

It looks like us Texas Whalers could have a good time. Okay!
I'm looking for suggestions as to where and when. I'm sure many of us would have to travel and probably stay some place over night so local accomodations would be a must. Any ideas?

She let me off the harness today as a matter of fact. Any idea how you're going to retrieve my sunk Whaler?

well Bob, this is what i can offer should everyone come this way. Plenty of accomidations, with numerous hotels on North Padre Island. Launch ramps on the island, with tons of canals/intercostal/gulf places to pull up on sand bars to party and or cook. I have a place on the water (about 90' of waterfront that can easily dock 5 or 6 boats) and if there is not too many, a place to crash for 5 to 6 couples between myself and my significant other comfortably. So i would suggest a venue of travel on a friday, launch first thing sat morning, cruise to ski basin sat, converse/lie about boat stories/cook out, head to my place (depending on size of crowd) sat night, spend night after a cook off, and head home sunday. If we do a 3 day weekend, could make Sunday an off shore in the Gulf fishing trip for several Whalers while the remainder can do a repeat of saturdays fun event. So, for planning purposes, what do you say we put our sights on a memorial weekend trip?
Doug V, need to figure out how to come down and join in on the fun, with or without the boat!!

Sounds like a winner with enough lead time.
Okay, you other Classic owners what say you? Let's move forward with this!

Let's do it!! Will a 13 ft be able to compete with you bigger Whaler guys? I'm not real familiar with the waters in South Texas.

duf,
It sounds like it would be right up my alley. Unfortunately I already have my spring and summer booked with family reunions, one in the the Pacific Northwest and another in Puerto Rico.
I will be following your plans and having fun with the group vicariously, through the site.
Doug

I wish I could make it, but I am getting married the following weekend. I am sure I will be finalizing plans and getting things ready.

Sounds like a great weekend. I am in La Grange, TX and like to fish Port A, Rock Port, Port O, Matagorda or Galveston at least once a month. Getting a group of Whaler owners together sounds like a good time. At the least a good reason to put the boat in the water. I have 2 small children (3 and 6) so will need to find our own place to stay so we do not get in the way. I have never been to "ski basin" -- you are around Corpus. Is that Corpus Christi Bay area?

My son and I are finishing the restoration of a 65 Eastport. Should be ready to go within a month. Would like to join in any Texas fun this summer. We live on Clear Lake in Clear Lake Shores. Just a mile to the Kemah Boradwalk. Might be a fun place to start a "tour"
