John,
Welcome! I'm also in Lafayette. No club here that I'm aware of. I'm looking to go to the trash pile tomorrow to try for a few specs. Hope to see you out there sometime.
Mike

Been around for a while but not on site for long time. As far as I know there is no such club, but would be fun.

Greetings guys, and we are doing the same thing down on the Texas Gulf Coast. Hopefully you will put together some folks with a like interest in Whalers, and especially Classic Whalers, and some day down the road we can envision a Tx/La meet up! We are neighbors after all! Pfft

Glean,
Wow! You're going to have to do some serious running to burn all that fuel. I fished all over big lake(Calcasieu Lake) one morning on only 2.4 gallons. We ran all over it and fought waves as well. It's only 40 hp but we ran a long ways.

As of Fri. 11th- motor installed- Had a problem with the travel of the throttle hitting the MAhogany at the top- I went by and solved it for the rigger at Degates Marine- Hope to have it by mid week- Yes I realize burning 26 gals. may take a while- Just a love for boating and the open water clouds my judgement at times - catching fish is a bonus of the day- ha

Keeping the thread alive and you can go ahead and count me in. I am making slow progress on getting my 1986 on the water. Just bought it in May and it needs a little TLC. It's an '86 17' montauk with a 1990 88hp Johnson on it. Can't wait to get it out on lake Ponchartrain!!Cool

Thanks for help keeping thread alive. I have also been slow to get mine in the water I am now at coat #9 on my varnish with 3 more to go. will be doing coat 10 tomorrow. I also am looking forward to motoring Lake Ponchatrain will be launching Mandeville harbor or Bayou Lacombe. But still a long time off with wiring, woodwork mounting and who knows what else. Went out last week (Sat.) with a freind to Isle of Pete in his OMC Sundowner 15 ft, 13mi across Lake Borne. Weather predicted 15kt winds and 1 to 2 ft seas but on way back waves was 2 to 3 with 3 episodes of 4 footers. What a wild ride wished I was in the Whaler. I had hoped to make Duf's Memoral Day Trip but it turned out to not be so. I keep setting new launch dates only to recalculate. Maybe well see each other someday at the trestles. Bob

Hey Guys, I realize this post should probably go under 'Maintenance' but I thought it more appropriate here since it is a problem common to our area.

I purchased my 15' Dauntless back in November '07. Since taking her home and calling her mine, i have brought her to Henderson a few times, the Vermilion River a few times, and Vermilion Bay a few times. Since running her in all those places, the hull has developed a brown tint to it. I have no problem keeping the inside of her clean, but nothing seems to work on her hull.

Have any of you South LA owners experienced the same thing and if so, what cleaning product did the trick in getting her back to whaler white?

Thanks!

John,
What are you doing up at 3:30 in the am? I hope you're getting ready to go fishing.Cool
That brown mess always happens in Henderson and the Vermilion. Try Bartender's helper. That should do it.

Hmm? Not sure why it registered as 3:30 in the a.m. It was actually 4:30 - i am an early riser. Thanks for the info about Bartenders Helpers. I will give it a shot. Where do you find that locally. Is that something they carry at the local Wal-Mart or do i need to try a specialty store?
