This is a question regarding weight distribution on a Montauk 170. I have a 115HP and usually ride w my wife and two children. No issues. Yesterday took out 4 adults and 2 children and the boat was lagging and difficult to get on plane. Where do you seat your guests? I have two stern seats, cushions on the igloo. Thanks in advance!
Two kids on the RPS with the backrest moved forward and them facing aft. If the kids are teenagers, you might move them to the cooler seat and have the adults behind you.
Do not have anyone sit on the stern quarter seats. They are only good for at anchor/docked.
You are going for a neutral or slightly bow down attitude when loaded.
With a full load the boat is 600lbs heavier so you will need to trim the engine all the way in and accelerate hard to get up on plane, then back off the throttle. Your top end will be 7-9mph lower at full throttle.
With a full load, the engine response will be much slower so be a bit more aggressive on the throttle.
Turning will bleed off momentum so keep the throttle up.
The boat will handle waves better with the weight so you will not need to throttle down as much with wakes.
Remember to use your engine trim once on plane.

For the current 170 MTK on plane, Whaler recommends two at the helm seat, two on the stern jumpseats, two standing behind the helm seat and a 7th person standing next to the console holding on for dear life!
That's not necessarily how I'd do it -- but look at section 2 in your owners manual.
