Hello All I have a 2004 Montauk 170. 17 foot. I need to replace the key switch. On the dashboard the key switch has a small round black bezel around it. It deems I need to remove the bezel to replace the switch. My question is how do I remove the bezel. Does it unscrew or do I just pry it off with a screw driver. I’ve tried both methods and it seems pretty stuck. I don’t want to break it. Thanks for any help.
First you unscrew the surface nut that holds the key switch in place. The mounting plate/bezel is held in place by a black plastic bracket in the back with two nuts. Threaded studs screw into the back of the mounting plate. There are some spacers under the nuts so that they don't interfere with the key switch, so be sure you don't lose them. They are important.
All of the parts for this key switch mounting system are readily available.
