I have a 1970 16-foot Whaler powered by a 90 HP Evinrude E-TEC outboard motor. I regularly carry four adults and a lot of gear, so the extra power is appreciated. At rest, my splashwell drains are just above the waterline, so with my current setup, I wouldn't want to go heavier than the E-TEC's 320 lb. (dry) weight.

The Yamaha F70 is highly recommended by 16' and 17' owners as having the advantage of power-to-weight ratio and reliability.

Prices for this engine have been higher than other brands of the same size due to high demand and low inventory.

As with all repower projects, shop several dealers with detailed quotes. Prices vary.
