Hi all. I have a 2002 Ventura 180 with Honda 130 (no idea why Honda). Lately I notice a gas smell when it's stopped or docked and I can see evidence a gas in the water. Not a lot but a few drops makes a big rainbow pool. I can't see anything leaking under the engine cover and the gas tank is not draining as far as I can tell. Also couldn't see any leaks or smell anything in the deck hatches.
Anybody have any ideas before I haul it out? Obviously I also don't want to risk an explosion or fire.
Check that all the hoses (vent, fill and supply) are stamped "alcohol resistant"
I would replace the supply from the tank to the engine unless it is less than 5 years old.
Shield and Trident are two respected brands.
Check under the cover for the sender. See gas there?
The Honda 130 is a great engine, will run for many 1000's of hours. While a bit heavy, very bomber, reliable.

Gasoline in the water indicates a possible fuel leak at the engine. I would check the tank to engine fuel line first. Apply some pressure to the line with the squeeze bulb first. If there is no obvious leak in the line or t the hose to engine connector remove the engine cowling and check for leaks at the fuel connections there.
Next, I would check for a leak at the fuel tank level sender gasket. If the gasoline appears shortly after adding fuel to the tank check the tank vent line and the filler hose. Fuel often spills from the vent line while filling the tank or immediately after.
Thanks for the suggestions. My mechanic was able to come by and we couldn't find any leaks from the tanks or the engine anywhere. It appears now that some gas is coming from the exhaust at idle. Seems fine at higher RPM's. Maybe a dirty injector or sensor in the fuel management. Unfortunately, the mechanic doesn't have the necessary software to hook up to the engine. Looks like a trip to the Honda dealer.
Other than that the motor runs 100%. I think new fuel lines from the tanks is a good idea though. No idea how old they are.
