I want to install a Fishfinder/ GPS and Bennet Bolt trim tabs and would like to make sure I make appropriate connections , I have not had any success finding a wiring schematic for either this or the 21 foot model made either in 1999 pr 2000 does anyone know where i might find one? Is it something that might be in an owners manual?
Thanks
JVB
Pre-2002 there was only basic wiring installed by the factory.
The selling dealer installed any accessories.
The typical setup for almost all boats is a main starting battery, possibly with a battery switch that also feeds a bus bar for accessories. All circuits have a fuse either inline, at the switch or on a fuse block.
A GPS is commonly wired directly to the battery or bus bar with an inline fuse.
Trim tabs can be as well.
The question is, does your current setup allow you to wire to the existing structure or is an upgrade necessary.
Thanks for the quick reply,
I am experienced with electrical work but was trying to save time chasing down whats hooked up where.
Also the pdf drawings for the boat from whaler show the boat with trim tabs installed so it must have been a factory option. There are unused wires / circuits tied off and bundled up inside the console. I was thinking that whaler may have included those as means of powering tabs or other accessories but only a schematic from whaler would tell me that.
I may try calling but given the age may be out of luck. I owned a 1984 Tiara Pursuit 21' walk around and even back then Tiara had a complete wiring schematic included in the owners manual, a little surprised that a 1999 Boston Whaler wouldn't have one. The Bennet tabs need one circuit with a 20 amp breaker plus two low voltage connections one to helm power for power on to unit and one to ingnition to retract the tabs automatic at turn off,(optional installation).
I will be replacing a 10 year old GPS unit that still functions , just figure its time, so I'll just use same connections
for that part.
Boat has double battery set up that was factory installed per original owner.
Thanks agin,
J
