I am possibly purchasing a 1984 Newport '17. It has a newer Yamaha 90hp 4-stroke outboard. The power is within specs, but does anyone know the maximum weight outboard that the hull can carry?
Thanks much for any advice/input.

The transom did not have a weight rating back in the day.

Many owners have installed 410lb Honda 90 Four Strokes without problem.

You will be fine with the 353 lb Yamaha.

You may want to move the battery to under the console if it is not already there.
