Just picked up my new (2007 vintage) Montauk 170. Motor and hull have 101 hours on them and boat was stored in a garage so everything is clean. Selling broker put a new battery in as the battery was dead. I always had my motor cycle on a trickle charger to keep it fresh. Is that recommended for Whalers that are kept in a wet slip? I am getting my bottom done later this week (epoxy barrier coat and bottom paint) as I am keeping the boat in a covered wet slip at a marina about 5 miles from home. Was considering a NOCO Genius Genpro charger ... it is a smart charger that charges "as needed" and won't over charge a battery. Thanks in advance.

Best solution for me on my ‘93 Montauk 17 (2 x battery) is to use these solar panel trickle chargers. Bought 2 from Amazon and they work great. They also are “smart” so they won’t over charge the battery. I’ve been using them for 3 seasons now. Leave them connected when not using the boat. I even leave them connected all off season and the motor fires right up in the spring. I do have one new battery which is a year old and one that came with the boat so it’s at least 6 years old. The trickle charger still keeps a good charge on it and it can still start the motor no problem.
