I went to help my friend troubleshoot his 1989 Montauk 17. He had no power to anything except his Garmin plotter. No engine tilt, no ignition or running lights. Brand new battery and all connections look correct and tight. Is there a main circuit breaker or fuse that could have blown! I'm thinking that's a possibility, but have no idea where it would be. His battery is located under the console. I thought I could help as I have a 1982 Montauk but our wiring is a bit different. I have dual batteries located after under the bench and a battery selector switch. He has no switch at all.
Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance!

There is no standard wiring for pre-2002 boats.

There is a main fuse inside the cowl of the engine. Follow the harness as it enters the engine.

Look in the console, follow the postive battery wire and look for a fuse or breaker.

If the wires are bundled with zipties, cut them to get at the wires.

Look for loose connections everywhere. Pull/replace any wires that have connectors.

We have a General "Wiring diagram" in our Download section here:
https://www.whalercentral.com/infusio...nloads.php

The above does not include the Engine harness or gauges which is a separate system.
See this article for different types of Engine Harnesses.
