I have had this 1978 13 foot Super Sport for about 6 years or so. Am finally going to refinish the console this summer. After looking it over I realized that the previous owner had cobbed on an upright/angled box and installed 6 gauges and a horn to the side. The gauges no longer work for the most part. The sides of the homemade control panel are nice Mahogany, but the front and back are a thin veneer. There is a tangled mess of wiring as a result. My question is- should I strip it down to the original console which is flat and eliminate all the gauges? Am I correct in thinking that it originally came with no gauges just running lights and a horn? Or did it come with gauges and the control box should actually be there?
