Hi there! Does anyone have any tips as to trying to attach lights to these tiny bits of wire protruding from my hull? I’ve tried to pull on them and they won’t budge..

I very carefully cleaned the ends until clean, then dipped it in flux, heated it with a solder gun and added an extension wire to each.

Then I slid heat shrink over each and shrunk it down with a barbeque lighter.

I also noted the color of each. One is a spare as I recall. Mine was no good.

Take your time because if you break it off you will be finding a new way to power the light.

Happy Father's day.

Thank you! I was able to melt some of the insulation away with the hot soldering iron.. but for some reason my rosin core solder (even when using flux paste) will not stick to the exposed wire. This is a 1962 Boston whaler 13’ (sorry for not saying so in the title) - should I be using a different kind of solder?

With my 1966 13-foot Boston Whaler, I used the technique guitarfish describes. I had about 3/8" of wire protruding. For the solder to stick, I had to remove oxidation from each individual strand of both wires using emery cloth. Very tedious work!

Those wires are no longer functioning. When this situation occurs, Boston Whaler published specific instructions on how to re-wire a hull like this. Basically, it involves using duplex wire taped in place under the outside gunnel lip with white duct tape where it does not show. You drill through the hull both at the stern and bow to access the terminal block at the stern, and bow light at the bow.

The above assumes the boat still has the original one piece white rubrail. If the boat has the newer upgraded rubrail with black insert, the wires can be run under the black insert, inside the rubrail.
