I have a 1971 13 foot sport I bought. I am trying understand how to power the lights. The attached photo shows a term block. Wire comes in through hull under the block. The connector to the rear light is obvious. I don’t understand how to hook up the larger connector to a battery ( seems there would need to be fuse inline as well). Also, is it reasonable to assume this powers up front light. All wiring is embedded in hull. None of this lighting wire is routed to console.

(changed to full 4 digit year per guideline #1 at the top of this page.)

Typically the nav light wires run to the console where there is a bus bar with neg/postive. The positive nav wire goes to a switch, negative to the negative bus strip.

Use 16 ga. marine tinned wire with heat shrinked ring terminals to the strip.

If the battery only has large posts, attach to the nut side of the battery cable lugs from the engine.

You should draw a crude wiring diagram to straighten it all out. Looks like a bit of a mess.

You will need a switch that has 3 positions.
One for anchor only, one for all running lights, and one for Off.
