I need a piece of material to raise the mounting position for a GPS. At least 1 1/2 inches thick, about 5x7 inches. I don't want any expensive custom made stuff. Any suggestions?

Laminate 2 pieces of 1" thick Starboard or similar material.

How about using a white plastic electronic project box?

Thanks for the replies. I went to a West Marine store and bought a 12x27 1/2 inch thick Starboard sheet, $64! Cut 3 pieces out, stacked and screwed them together with 2 1/2 inch SS screws attaching all of it over the glove box area. It would have been much more precise with a table saw, but I made it work with a circular saw for the cuts and a Dremel to remove edges. Turned out great IMHO.
