I have first refusal rights on a Montauk 150 to be built next March. It will be used as a tender to replace the 13 ft Sport we have used for 20 years. I have spent days on this site reading everything I can about the Montauk 150. It has been noted by others that the 60 Hp Mercury engine is a limitation. My needs for the boat are to carry a load and easily put it on plane, perhaps 4 people, shrimp pots, down riggers etc. would be the maximum load. I do not have a need for speed so am willing to go with the the largest diameter prop suitable with a low pitch so it can climb out of the hole.
I always pay close attention to the tachometer so over speeding the engine will not happen. 3 or four blades?
I have read elsewhere on this forum of owners who want to pull tubes while carrying a few people aboard. They may wish to also have high end speed for this but that is not my goal.
Any experience from owners or advice of those with experience would be greatly appreciated.
