From ~1981 outrage 22 ft. Railing coupling have a plastic thingy that is like a grommet or plastic washer that the set screws (phillips head machine screw) passes through. My guess it is a dampener to keep screws from loosening from boat vibration. Does anyone know what these are called and where they can be purchased? Many thanks.
Somewhere on this site, where, I cannot find, is the name of the supplier of these screws, and I believe they were located in Weymouth Massachusetts. The item you are seeking may be available at a good hardware store. Look for nylon washers. The screws were special, with tapping threads for the first 1/8" of the shaft.
Just for fun, I checked the "other" Whaler site.it listed the source as
CMI Marine Weymouth, Mass.
