Yep, I'm the one who bought the Lee's Montauk/Outrage outrigger base off of eBay and I have a few questions I hope y'all can help me out with. First, what is the diameter for the elbows to fit in the base holes? Second, besides everything up from the elbows outriggers, snubbers etc., what else might I need to make this operate as it did back in 1971? The second question will be difficult for y'all to answer because you don't know exactly what I'm getting but links to personal page photos would be great. Thanks

Also, this is all going on a 1992 17' Montauk SE that has the Shepard's crook already added.

So I've noticed. Seachoice makes a set for $60ish sold on eBay that they claim to be stainless. Cheapest I've found. Seller has them but they appear to be galvanized and are in rough shape.

I believe they were chrome over brass. I sold mine many years ago and do not remember. I also had a line on the "rubrail" that goes around it as well.

The Lee outriggers that fit into the Whaler base are model AP315. They are out of production, but you might find a set used. Or try to get the dimensions and look for a company that makes a good copy, with SS bases that will fit into the Whaler casting. I'm sure you can find something. The outriggers themselves were 15' long.

As mentioned, the bases and pole bases(elbows) were chrome plated brass.

I just messaged seller about getting the hardware from him. Hopefully he'll be willing to ship them.

Well, I'm finally installing the Boston Whaler outrigger mount with Lee's outrigger bases. This is the better description of this according to Lee's tackle who informed me they never made the aluminum castings that supported the outrigger bases. I don't know, I was five years old when these were in their prime. Someone with a few more hours on their meter can elaborate better on that statement. With that being said, I wonder why the outrigger base fell out of favor with Whaler? In the late 1970's through the early 1980's they were attached to almost every Montauk and Outrage in the catalog. Then all of a sudden gone by 1984. One would think as much as they touted the Montauk for being a blue water go getter they would keep that thought going. I guess it comes down to sales and marketing of the times. All I know is I'm going to keep the blue water legs under my Montauk.

These outriggers work great on the center console. I used them all the time while fishing.

I have pictures of them on my Outrage 21 in my personal page.

The console rail outrigger mount was a Whaler designed accessory, first offered on the 1971 Outrage 21 "Ribside", probably produced for them by a sub-contractor. They were designed to hold the Lee AP315 Outrigger system. It was an expensive option, and basically only needed for offshore ocean trolling.

As mentioned they were widely furnished on the Montauk and 70's Outrage models. All of these boats did not have gunwale designs that could accommodate the Outrigger base mounts, so this accessory gave the boats offshore trolling capability. On the Outrage models, the single skin gunwales were not substantial enough to support the stress from the deployed outriggers.

This changed in 1979 with the introduction of the teak gunwales on the new V-20 and V-22 Outrages, and then the later 18 and 25 Outrages. These gunwales could accommodate the Lee outrigger bases, so the console rail mounts were no longer needed. In addition, the Outrage 18 basically replaced the smaller Montauk for offshore trolling in a small boat, so fewer Montauk buyers would order the rail mounted outriggers. The console rail mount was still offered until about 1989, but fewer and fewer were purchased or needed.
