I'm picking up a 170 Dauntless this week. The boat will be kept on a lake in NE PA during the summer months, and I'm struggling with going all out on a Mills Canvas mooring cover ($1200) or just covering the center console/seat with sunbrella type. Anyone have any thoughts/experience on if a full mooring cover is overkill considering where I'll keep the boat?
That depends on how easily it is to put on the full cover and exactly how much of the boat do you want to protect from the elements. Most CC boats have a console and seat cover only as you can protect the fiberglass decks, etc with wax. If you want it to look like new and stay cleaner, a full cover is great. I have both sets of covers on my 18' Outrage depending on my usage.
