Good afternoon all,

After moving, I realized I cannot locate the sump cover or screws for my 1984 Montauk. I was going to use the original one as a template for a new one as it was in rough shape. I have the template from this site, but I do not recall the size of the screws. Also, did they just go straight through the wood and into the sump area? I do not want water intrusion and I feel like my last ones did (not sure if that is correct, though).

Also, where could I locate some teak plywood or suitable replacement? I'm in San Diego but willing to order online within reason. Starboard is a last resort for me as I like the look of the wood better.

Thanks,

JB

There are drawings in the download section to fabricate a new one. Remember to use a dab of marine sealant in the hole and on the shaft to seal the deck.

Marine ply or solid teak will work. Any cabinet grade wood vendor will have it.

Thanks, Phil. I have the drawing and already have a template created. Do you know the size of the 4 screws? Thanks for the tip to add marine sealant. I was not sure if a specific sealant was used there or any additional hardware such as washers were originally used.

I appreciate the local links.

Use 3/8"marine teak plywood for cover. The screws are #10 x 1" or 1-1/4". You can use either a truss head (preferred), or pan head, with washer underneath, or an oval head with trim ring.

Pre-drill and set all screws, remove, and squeeze a dab of Life Seal Clear into each hole, skim flush, then re-set cover and screws. This will make them water tight.

There is a new wood shop advertising on this site that may be able to make the cover for you.

Thank you very much for the information! I will be able to make the cover, so luckily there will not be any additional expense there.
