Hi everyone, I got a whaler mischief that will be modifying for speed, the boat came with a 90 mercury and a 5.5" fixed Bob's jack plate. The plan is to swap the engine with a 2 stroke 115hp merc I already have, add a Bob's hydraulic jack plate, modify the hull by extending the strikes, move the battery and the fuel tank forward, add a pad which I'm starting to study which way to go about this. I've been trying to get in touch with the owner of black max and Mitch the owner of the blue hull with the Yamaha 130 from Charleston SC but no luck at all, I really wanted their expertise badly, so if anyone has any suggestions don't hesitate to let me know.
Now the question is about the jack plate, what would be a better choice, 6" or 4" setback?

The farther back you place the engine, the propensity for the hull to porpoise increases significantly.
For a standard 15 hull and interior, the recommendation is to have as little setback as possible.

That's one of the main reasons I was thinking about going with a 4" setback, its basically the minimum they have available. This one is a mischief so I would assume weigh is a bit different than the standard classic 15, moving the weigh forward would help that too.
Thanks for the input.

I would go 4", it would be different if it was an actual performance boat. My friend Bob had a 115 Tower of power on a mischief, can't remember what kind of jackplate he had. She would do mid 50's.

That's what I'm shooting for, it looks like 4" will be the way I would go. Is that the red mischief with the tan sea deck?

Thanks, for some reason it's been impossible to contact the owners of the whalers with bigger engines.

I can't remember if he removed the 90 and put on the 115 or if he removed the 115 and put on the 90(I think it was the latter). He brought it to one of my rendezvous and gave people rides when it had the 115. He later went of the grid and moved to the woods or bayou someplace in LA. I have not heard from him in close to 10yrs.
