I guess what I want to know is whether the foam goes under the tank or just down the sides and if not under the tank, what supports the tank? I haven't read ALL the postings on this site, but I do not recall anyone actually describing the removal of a foamed in, under deck fuel tank. Thank you for your input.

They are a small shop and do lots of Whaler stuff. No foam on the re-install. Also no large gasketed inspection port where the fuel pick ups attach. I was unable to see the removed tank as it was left with fabricator as a template. I may ask to contact that guy just to inform others as to condition. 1989 so you all know.

You need to have something around the entire tank to help keep water from getting under/around tank. I have pictures of a tank in a 1991 19’ outrage that was replaced in the last month or so.send me an email an I can send you some pictures. Todd

Member Posts: 291 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/15/12	I replaced my tank myself with a FMT. Cut the foam with a saw around the sides and used a 4x4 and a jack on the trailer to pop it out. I tried lifting it out on the ground but it jacked up the entire boat in the air. The bottom foam stuck pretty well. I ran 4 strips of neoprene(I think it was 1/2" thick) length wise from bow to stern to give spacing for water to flow out. Foamed the sides and glassed the top with a channel to get water to the back. Added a drain plug and had the new tanks made a little shorter so I could stick my hand down and get out any water that gets in there. Over all works great. I would foam the sides to hold it in place really well. Thats a lot of weight to be sloshing around. The only regret was getting a Florida Marine Tank. I had it cermicoated and they did a horrible job. It started flaking off in 1 month and they did not respond to any emails. A guy here makes them 3/16" and glasses the entire top. Looks nice. You need to add spacers on the long sides. 3" wide and as deep as the tank side every running foot. Phenolic (plastic cutting board material) is a good choice. Plastic decking has also been used.
