I replaced my interior on my 1981 13' sport about 10 years ago but I forget who made it. I don't think it was Specialty as this company made really cool stuff like tables and such too. My front hatch has now warped to the point that it looks like the long jump ski ramp at the winter Olympics.

A hatch cover could be fabricated pretty easily. Comes down to wood selection. Look for vertical grain on the end cut. You might get lucky and straighten your piece. Soak it and keep it in water........ then store in a cool cold flat place then stack some heavier lumber on it.......may take out some of the bow.........clamp and screw/glue some cleats on the underside. Might get away without splitting the wood. Direct sun on un-reinforced green wood is cruel.

It was Nautical Lumber.....Mike Stennett. Anyone know if they are still in business? I sent an email and it was not kicked back but their old website is no longer.

Nick - Mike closed the business down - He still owes me a bow platform for my ribside that I paid for over 4 years ago. He promised he would still make it and deliver - I gave up.

I ordered one from Specialty. We'll see about their quality.
"$55/hr more than reasonable." Well that depends on the service.

Judging by the shop pictures he looks pretty well set up. For comparison on labor. I priced out a "prevailing wage" job in California for a school district. $80/hr for some one to scrape the loose soil from a utility trench. That hatch cover is a simple small product. Might be worth the call to see if he has vertical grain wood. He might have some "odds and ends" around of material that are dry vs green. I would feel him out if nothing else just to chat.

Well that depends....
Yard rates are like $120/hr for some 20 something making $15/hr to work on a boat. Owners have a right to be itch about that. Some yards throw parts at a problem rather than diagnose.
This is not that.
I would not recommend Bob if I did not know actual whaler owners who had him build a part or interior.
I know you know that true OEM parts or quality replacement parts cost big bucks.
Lois was not cheap but her work was truly great. Janis delivers top quality OEM and custom work, as does Sue at Twin Cities, Tena at Anderson's and Ray @ Martin Marine Design.
