Steering frozen (2013 Montauk 150) is outboard removal required?
I have a 2013 Montauk 150 and the steering is frozen. Outboard moves freely with steering link rod removed. Helm will not move steering cable in tilt tube. Have basically freed up cable, but probably need to replace. Can't get cable out of tilt tube, hits starboard transom when only about 1/2 out.
Question: Do I have to lift the outboard (or remove it) to replace the steering cable? If so, what the best way to do that?
The steering requires periodic maintenance and is probably repairable. If you don't take care of it, you will be replacing the steering cable every 3-5 years.
