I've been reading and studying voraciously since I got my 'new' Outrage 18 less than a month ago, my first Whaler. It has undergone a few changes over the past 3 decades. For one, the socket base for the all-round light/masthead light on the center console was replaced with a clam shell cover for the GPS/fish finder cables. This is my first classic Whaler and I don't know what the original configuration was like, and I can't find any good pics.
1) Were the original lights retractable? (Somehow I've gotten the impression that they slide down into the console when not in use).
2) Can you post some close up pics that show all the workings? (I have seen the pics of original parts here on WC, but don't understand where the 'lower base support' and the 'spacer' go, exactly).
Thanks!

Hi, On my 19 Outrage II the all-round white light is at the top of a removable pole that is lowered and stored under the gunwale when not in use. It mounts vertically into a socket at the aft starboard quarter of the boat. This is a very similar arrangement to how it was done on many Whalers.
I had thought the Outrage 18 was similar, but you seem to suggest yours is mounted to the center console. I wouldn’t be too keen on that location due to the possibility of it being obscured by canvas (bimini, etc), passengers, etc. It needs to be visible from astern.

The Outrage 18 had the International style Navigation lights with the center Masthead Light on the console that retracted downward when not in use.
This Masthead Light is the Anchor Light. It is also a Navigation Light when underway as the rear of the Masthead Light is automatically turned off when in the Running mode.
I would start out with purchasing the console upper mount fitting

You do not really need the spacer unless you are a purist. You could make one if you really want but no one would ever see it.

You could still use the lower base support and the upper support without the spacer

Mount those two pieces together using the same mounting bolts with the upper console between them.
Do you have the Masthead Light Assembly?

Can we assume you still have the International Light Switch?

Let's start gathering those parts and let us know what you have.

Thanks much for the thorough reply, Joe. I'm not a purist, but certainly want to keep the Whaler classic appeal as much as practical. I suppose the spacer was added to make the lower base more of a deep keel, adding counter stability when the long shaft is extended upward.
I will order the light assembly, upper and lower base parts, and a new switch and dive in!
Thanks again

You would need to find a used one or build one from our article here.

Thanks Joe. That article is good for the stern light. I'm getting into the retractable masthead light at the console. Still need a part number for the light and/or numbers for parts needed to assemble one like the original.
Thanks again. Your responses are much appreciated.
