Can any owners of early hull 16' tell me where to find a wide 'V' style replacement bow stop pad? (For my 1971 Menemsha).

The standard v's are not spread flat enough. The one I have has a huge spread of over 5", and is almost flattened out. It is crumbling unfortunately.

In addition to that issue my trailer was built by a defunct trailer builder that used pads and rollers with 3/4" shafts. And some of my keel roller supports are welded steel. After months of searching I've figured out a work around to use the available modern rollers with 5/8" shafts. I am cutting 3/4" sleeves / collars over the 5/8" shaft ends to fit the existing supports. Pads/rollers with 3/4" shafts are of unobtainium.

I haven't been able to launch the boat at all since purchasing it. The hull has minor damage I need to repair, caused by it previously being loaded with existing cracked rubber rollers. This caused the hull to contact the steel supports. I have figured out how involved the gelcoat repair is in other areas I've fixed so I won't chance further damage until everything is up to snuff.

Long winded way of asking for info, sorry.

Phil, I am working on the rebuild of my console at my wood working buds place. I'll take a couple pics when I get back and can uncover the boat.

Seems like somebody would have some info since it's basically an old montauk hull eh?

Guitarfish:

As you know I am familiar with your Menemsha and how it is set up on the trailer.

I see you have a centerline keel support roller below the exterior bow eyelet. You have an electric winch and cable to the eyelet. Your have an off white V-shaped bow stop that makes contact with your centerline chine @15 inches above the eyelet or @12 inches below the bow chock/light.

The bow stop is mounted high for a reason: The V-shaped bow stop prevents the 16 hull (no smirk) from bouncing on the trailer because of the low placement of the eyelet.

The good news is that a replacement V-shaped bow stop like what you have is readily available from any on-line trailer parts supplier.

Here are a few samples:

Since your gelcoat is white don't buy a new black bow stop because it will leave ugly marring. Buy a poly vinyl bow stop preferably made by Stoltz.

Hi W, the trailer has been changed up a bit. The winch is a manual now. That took hours of cutting and grinding as everything is welded.

The spindle holes are too large on both the rollers and bow stop side supports. It's really hard finding a wide spread poly bow stop with a 3/4" shaft and 3" base.

Guitarfish: I recommend you purchase a new galvanized bracket. Look at etailer.com for the correct fitting parts. https://www.etrailer.com/Boat-Trailer...EALw_wcB#/

Thanks for the idea. I checked into it a bit, but I ended up finding a matching pad with the incorrect spindle hole size. It just arrived today. I drilled out the hole to fit my spindle (bolt) and mounted it up. Yay, one item down.

I am in the throes of varnish / sanding mania. When I finish reassembling / reinstalling the console / helm I will move back to the keel roller replacement.

I've already replaced the bunks and carpet. And my trailer repaint is half done.

I'm going on my old Outrage for the SF area rockfish / lingcod opener next week weather permitting. Naively thought I'd have the Menemsha ready to roll....
