Anyone used some foam or rubber gasket material with adhesive backing to cushion mahogany seats from riding directly on the gel coat?

The factory at Rockland MA installed mahogany wood interiors using a rubber grommet where ever the mahogany seat clamps made contact with the thwart board seats. This technique prevented friction and noise caused by wood rubbing on wood or gelcoat. You do not need to put rubber between the seat clamps and the gelcoat since the wood is fastened securely to the thwart board channels.

Hose fitting gaskets often make good padding and are unobtrusive.

Or smaller fat "O" rings in the diameter you want, also available at any hardware store.

Thanks everyone! Think I’m going to run some 1/2” wide by 1/8” thick neoprene foam weatherstripping with adheasive backing attached the the underside of the thwart boards. The thought is to reduce vibration and noise while consealing and consealing the insulation. Then I will suck the seat clams down snug to the top of the thwart boards.
Thoughts on that?

The adhesive on the weather strip may react to the varnish finish on the wood.

Possibly, maybe I’ll stick it to the fiberglass instead. Thanks.

The less vibration reducing material you use, the better. Be aware a standing neoprene material left on gelcoat that has a tendency to get wet and trap moisture will cause an osmotic blistering condition to the gelcoat surface.
