it is a 12 gal tank and the top of the vented gas cap will not clear the opening. I have tried releasing the pressure but it still hangs up on the lip of the opening. sometimes so much that the tank won't come out. The problem is I take the boat out for an hour and then want to top off tank and can't do it.
Are you filling the single 12 gallon fuel tank to capacity? Take a look at the owners manual for the Boston Whaler 150 Montauk: Fuel tanks should not be filled to capacity; allow 2 percent for expansion. The problem is not the fuel tank cap but rather the expansion of the fuel tank that is making it difficult to remove from under the RPS to fill.
Did you purchase/install the tank or did the dealer?
Given there are 1/2 a dozen 12 gallon above deck fuel tanks available, it would help if you provided a photo of the tank installed in the opening showing the cap.
