Your are correct - "They will be the last tanks you will need to buy." I know some very happy Whalers that have been outfitted with KSH / MIrax custom tanks.

At first I thought it was a little high but Quality is always worth the extra money because you will only have to spend it once instead of buying a cheaper product and realizing that you should have bought quality the first time. I would stay away form plastic and the potential problems fuel can cause with that material.
