Ordered some new cooler chocks from Specialty Marine for my 1986 17' Montauk. I received the ones that were designed for the Montauk (CC-1)When I received them I noticed that they had a riser on one end and had the middle mounting hole off set from the end two. The ones that came of had all three mounting holes in line with each other like the other chock option did (CC-2) The only difference from the CC-2 and the ones I took off was that the old ones were entirely rectangular in outline. I asked the previous owner if he had replaced these but and he said he didn't. My plan is just to mount the proper ones (CC-1) and drill new holes for them. I don't like drilling new holes in a boat, even as small as these are so I'm asking here if anyone has heard of this and if I put the chocks on that aren't supposed to be used (CC-2) will that be a problem. There must be an issue in doing that as it requires a different set of chocks.

Thank you

Ed

What is a (CC-1) or (CC-2) ?

All Montauks had the riser on the forward end that I have ever seen.
You can drill the holes wherever you want which is a good idea so you don't have to drill new holes in the deck.

Hi Joe, CC-1 and CC-2 are the part numbers from Specialty Marine for the two different cooler chocks. The chocks with the risers (CC-1) are the proper ones for my Montauk. What came off the boat were CC-2 chocks with no riser and a different screw hole pattern. Both of the chock styles from Specialty Marine already have pre drilled holes. Because the wrong chocks were somehow installed on this boat I will have to drill new screw holes in the deck. My question was whether I should use the incorrect chocks and use the existing screw holes or use the proper chocks and drill new holes (which I'm going to do) I take it that the end of the bungee is passed into the chock and a knot is made to go into the hole under the chock, is that correct?

Thanks again

There is only one correct Montauk Cooler Cleat.
The ones that have the riser on front no matter where the holes are drilled.

Take a look in our Downloads section for cooler cleat drawings.

I would not drill any new holes in your deck. Drill the cooler cleats that match up to your holes.

While I agree that drilling holes in the deck should be avoided, I would want to install the correct cleats.

Don't worry about the pre-drilled hole in the cleat. Drill the cleat to line up with the existing holes.

Remember to use marine sealant (not adhesive) in the hole to ensure no water penetration in the hole and on the threads of the screw.
