Is the fiberglass sealed under the rub rails on theses boats? I gave a fair amount of cracking in plastic next to the rubber on mine. I hope that it is not a window to moisture... is it an easy repair?

Can anyone tell me the actual length of the rub rail for a 17’ montauk? I’d like to order one, but my boat is ‘in the shop’ so I cannot measure.

If you contact and order from Sue Lodel, Parts Manager at Twin Cities, she already knows.

Ok, but can anyone tell me the actual length needed for a Rub Rail on a 1989 17' Montauk? The boat is 16'7" in length.
I know Specialty Marine sells a Rub Rail kit for this at 37'. Is that a sufficient amount of length being that it has to wrap around the Bow?

engass I don't have a 17 Montauk but simple math will tell me 37 ft is not enough.
You need at least a foot or so on each side of the transom. leaving you 35 feet. Each side is probably 16-1/2 ft for 33 feet total leaving only 2 feet for the bow. Hence 37 feet is not enough unless you can stretch it which is doubtful.

Well, I purchased a Kit from Specialty Marine:
"Boston Whaler OEM 3 piece 37' rub rail kit. Fits all Boston Whaler Classic 9'-17' hulls from 1958-1999"
I can always send it back. Has anyone here ever purchased products from them?

I ordered that same kit, and it worked great my 1979 Montauk. Be sure to have some help, pretty labor intensive job.

Thanks. That's all I needed to know. I plan on having someone with experience install.
