Parts question (decals and bungee cord for coolers)
We have a 18' 1999 Boston Whaler Dauntless. It is in great shape but the engine cover (135 optimx) has lost it's shine. I have a place lined up to paint the cover. Where is the best place to order the replacement decals?
One of the cooler bungees broke a couple weeks ago. Anything I should know before I pull up the supports to replace? Where is the best place to order the bungees from or should I just go to Home Depot? The local boat shop had bungee could but it seemed to be much thinner.
Call Sue Lodel at Twin Cities Marine. They are $7 per set. A lot of people buy off eBay, which are fake, for a lot more $. call her for most everything that you need.
Every Whaler owner should be equipped to make their own marine grade bungee cord, since they wear out quickly. You can buy the bulk cord, any diameter, various types of hooks, and SS end crimps, at a place like West Marine. All you need is a pliers and sharp razor knife to cut the cord
To make them, wrap masking tape around the cord at the cut location, cut in the middle, and singe the end on an electric stove burner, or auto cigarette lighter. Remove tape, fold over end and crimp. That's it.
The proper way to attach into the boat floor with underlying wood, is to only drill the hole through the glass skin the outer diameter of the threads. this will avoid the dcrew chipping up the gelcaot and fiberglass skin. Then allow the screw to self tap into the wood. Screws should be sized for 1" maximum penetration into the floor. these are Boston Whaler's recommendations.
