Hi All, I have just embarked on a project to restore an old 13' Whaler. I know this question has been asked a million times but I need to know who to contact to get a new HIN tag for my whaler.
The posts I found regarding this are pretty old and do not if the same people are still available to help.
The embedded serial in my transom is 2B9791.
Thanks & Regards from sunny Malta

Hi Antoine: I always order my HIN plates from Magic Brush in Florida. Their website www.magicbrushsign.com has contact information posted.

Welcome aboard WhalerCentral
2B9791 is the Stencil number in the Gelcoat and that number would make it a 1977 year model.

Your HIN would be something like this:
BWCE1xxxM77L
HIN numbers started in late 1972 (Hull Identification Numbers)

Thanks a lot for the feedback gentlemen! Who would be able to give me an official statement about what my HIN is? The plate is not on the boat anymore and it would add to the originality of the project to have it!
Once at hand I would be able to order the plates,
Thanks again....
I would love to be able to post the progress of my resto .... loads of layers of paint to remove :(

Only Boston Whaler can give you that info.
Call or email them and give them your Stencil number.
They should be able to give you the corresponding HIN.
Save that paperwork or email for future reference and have an HIN tag made.

It really is a labor of love. 40 years of layers of different paints are quite a challenge. Already spent a significant number of hours sanding this week :)
Just for the sake of information I got replies from Chuck Bennet @ Boston Whaler
"According to our handwritten shipping records, serial number 2B9791 was assigned a 12 character hull identification number of BWCE1101M77L.
This boat was built in our old Rockland, MA factory as a 13’ Sport model and was originally shipped out to a place called Marin Marine, in San Rafael, CA, on 7/20/77."
Its amazing how the boat ended up in the middle of the Mediterranean!
Thanks to all!
