I am in process of replacing complete rub rail on my 1976 Outrage 19'. I am looking for help on just how to properly seal the top hull piece to bottom hull piece. What type of sealant do I use? What brand? Just where do I even put the sealant, and at what point in the process do I even use the sealant. When I removed the old railing and insert, there was caulking all over, inside and even on outside of rub rail. Any help in the process would be deeply appreciated. I also have some preliminary repairs to make. The top hull piece has a broken off flange at the transom on both port and starboard sides. It is about a 6" piece on both sides of boat. thanks to anyone who can help. Wish I could send a pic, but don't know how to do that. I previously redid a 17' Monteauk 1976 and that was easy. This two piece boat worries me that it could have a serious leak of not done properly.

Does your rubrail look like this?

If not, it is not original, and probably a poor replacement job. I have never had my receiver off, but I doubt that the factory would have gobbed it up with caulking.

Twin Cities Marine can get you the proper red color replacement rubrail.

yes, it does look like the pic. my insert was red and I just recently ordered one from Twin Cities. Just don't know about how to seal the two boat halves back together. And what a beautiful boat you have. Do you use the plastic tank at transom for spare gas or main fuel. I'm thinking of removing my tank just to clean and inspect it. Ive completely dismantled my interior so the tank is probably next project. Got to know its real condition.

Did you take the cap off for a reason? If not the two halves are sealed from the inside of cap - its really hard to get them apart. You just seal your old rub rail mounting holes from the receiver with epoxy and install the new one. Here is a ton of photos of a restoration on a classic 1970's 19 Outrage.

I took the halves apart to make repairs to flanges on port and starboard sides of stearn---the areas under rub rail were broken off on each side. Also so, so many screws, rivets, and caulking holding old rub rail on. Splitting hull was easiest way to get at everything. Thanks for your help.
