Hi. New to this forum! Trying to find out where the fuel gage sending unit is on my 1999 16' Dauntless. Also not quite sure how to navigate this site for diagrams. Any help is much appreciated!

I had the same boat but don't remember for sure. I believe it can be seen/accessed from the engine well's bilge access cover. If not, it will be under a deck plate near the seat. Try any access port between the console and the engine well first, if there is one. If you plane to remoce the sending unit you'll need some vertical clearance.

Why do you want to find the sending unit?

Thanks Butch. My fuel gage is sticking on full then jumps to empty, unfortunately when I run out of gas! A family member used my boat right before I did so I assumed it was full when reading full on the gauge since this had not occurred before.

Sorry for the typos in my first reply.

It sounds a lot like you may have a loose or corroded connector somewhere between the sending unit and the gauge or between the gauge and ground. I would inspect every electrical connection between the gauge and the battery and the gauge and sending unit before considering removing or replacing the unit. It is even possible the gauge is defective.

A connection can look fine but may not be good. Wires attached to connectors can become loose so give them a firm tug. I would even consider removing connectors and inspecting them for corrosion before assuming the are OK.

I have a 1999 Dauntless 18. My gauge has always been erratic. Between that, the way the tank is situated and my problem filling up because of the way it's vented, my gauge tells me how much gas I may have. The best way is to get the tank as empty as possible, fill it up and go from that baseline.

I have a 1997 Dauntless 17" DC / Bowrider, so this might be different, but the fuel sending unit is below an access panel in the center of the floor. It should still (engineering wise) be in the same place for center consoles. Easy to check connections and continuity of wirings from there.
