I purchased a 1980 Montauk this fall and pulled all the parts off to work on in my basement this winter. The RPS seat is covered with a heavy brown fabric. Looks like a professional cover job. It appears to be older based on the rusty nails and staples. Is this factory or just a recovered seat? I have purchased a new seat from Marine Spec so was thinking of selling this one. Any value?

That cushion is definitely not original. I would get rid of it.

I have an all original 1979 Montauk, basically the same boat you have, which has had so little use that the original tan pleat RPS cushion and cooler cushion are still original from 1979. In the photo you can what they looked like.

The BEST source for a factory replacement, all original RPS seat cushion, incidentally, is Anderson Upholstery in Mims Florida. They are the shop I buy from. They have made much of Boston Whaler's upholstery for years.

Their cushion includes a Starboard bottom (instead of plywood), complete with properly located threaded SS inserts for #14 machine screws. This makes leg installation simple and easy.

I believe the Anderson price for the RPS seat cushion is $250 + shipping
It is worth every penny of the cost..

Finnegan,
Thanks for the reply. Your boat is amazing. Where the risers on the seat and console factory or added later. I have seen people raise the seat but why is the console raised? Just better visibility?
