I am looking for a rear seat for a 1971 Outrage. Seat was removable in three sections while back was permanently attached. When boat was restored at Metan Marine seat was not replaced and have been looking for something close. Any recommendations helpful.

My 1974 Outrage 21 had a rear seat that needed replacing. I purchased the folding seat back and loose cushions by Birdsall from Marine products.net. Excellent quality and much better access to rear stowage areas. Seat back and cushions are easy removable if needed for fishing. Check it out..

Just checked it out and looks like a great solution. Thanks

I have a 1971 Outrage 21 also (see Personal Website link), and I considered a stern seat but then decided it was not a good idea. In my case, I have two 19 gallon fuel tanks and two battery boxes under the stern deck, and a stern seat makes easy access to these impossible.

This boat was the originator of the "Whaler Stern Seat" (and also of the RPS), and it had a very high molded plywood back, and the three sections you describe for lift out access under the stern deck. It was overly complicated in my opinion, and did not hold up very well from what I can tell. Finding a decent used one may be nearly impossible.

If you must have a Whaler stern seat, you can buy the later design, starting in 1973, from Anderson Upholstery in FL, located near the Space Center. All they need is the inside width dimension from your boat. With the SS legs, I think they are about $1500 plus shipping. It will look great, but not easily moveable for access to whatever you have under the stern deck. They are fairly heavy.

I would not do it unless you have nothing to access under the stern deck.

The one piece seat Finnegan mentions is the one I trashed from my 1974 Outrage. It was heavy and access to stowage was difficult. Thus I looked for an alternative and felt the Birdsall seatt back and cushion a great choice. Easily removable if needed. The one piece is great seating but several drawbacks. Finnegan knows his stuff.

(please follow guideline #1 at the top of this page and use the full 4 digit year)
