I just purchased a lovely 2008 Montauk 190 that came from the factory with the fishing package and set up with the trolling motor wiring in the bow. Bow Rail was deleted. I have ordered a Bow Rail to add to the boat as I prefer the look and don't intend to fish.
Would appreciate info on best practices for determining rail location for placement accuracy. Also need input on how to drill the holes - what drill bit(s) do you use to drill pilot hole? Other installation info greatly appreciated!
Just wanted to update everyone on the rail installation for my 2008 Montauk 190. When the rail arrived from Boston Whaler, the 6 plates did not sit level on the surface of the boat. I called Whaler and quite frankly did not get much help. After pondering how to properly mark it and get the install perfect, I decided to deliver the boat to Twin Cities Marine as I had purchased the rail through Sue Lodel, Parts Dept. Manager.
Cannot say enough good things about how the installation was completed yesterday! It's perfect and the staff did a great job of measuring and positioning the rail. Since the boat has the trolling motor package, the bow light was on a short removable pole and I also elected to switch this out to the standard light for a more traditional look. They even had this in stock!
Excellent experience with the Service Department and both Sue and Chris in the front office - if you're looking to work on your boat, or need parts I highly recommend calling Sue!
And now I excitedly await the delivery of my full custom mooring cover in Captain's Navy in about 10 days!
