Which Moeller Fuel Tank?

I'd like to replace the twin factory metal portable fuel tanks in my 1984 17' Newport. Moeller makes different capacities in their white plastic tank series with the convenient angled filler. Which capacity tank will fit under the Reversing Pilot Seat using the stainless hold-downs?

Thanks.

Your metal tanks are valuable so offer them for sale (here) when ready.

Searched this subject as I have a 25 gal Moeller tank under my RPS, but was thinking of moving it under the console for weight distribution.

Anyone done this? I foresee an issue with filling the tank from 6 gallon jugs, but then I could free up some room for the cooler.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but you weren't getting many responses, so kind of a revival.
To answer the original question, the 23 (or 25) gallon white one fits fine.

The weight shift will not be very dramatic.

Is your battery under the console? If not, I would move that. It is a less weight but more effective shift.

I already pulled the tank due to a bad gas issue. So moving it would be easy. I haven't moved the battery yet, as that would take some actual work, but may be a nice late winter / early spring project. Maybe even do both.
I get your point, the battery is much further aft than the tank, and moving that 6 or 8 feet forward versus moving the tank 2 feet may be more bang for the buck.

From a purely personal view point, I think the newer white Moeller tank looks terrible in a Desert Tan Whaler, a bad color match. Having looked at one close up, I also think the quality of finish looks not as good as their red tanks. I would not buy one, except for a "white" Whaler.

My recommendation would be for the single 24 gallon red tank. Also, for less money, you can buy twin Moeller red 12 gallon tanks.

As mentioned, those red Tempo aluminized steel tanks you have are valuable - probably worth about $100 each. I would consider having them professionally repainted as I did. You can even buy new decals for them.

I think the white tanks are ethanol friendly and red ones are not.

For clarification:

The Moeller 12 gallon tanks that Finnegan is referring to are plastic and are alcohol resistant.

I just replaced 2 old rusty metal 6 gallon tanks on my 1987 Montauk. I put in the white Moeller with angled filler. My 1987 Montauk had the access hole for the fuel tube located between the tanks which would cause the fuel tank to pinch the fuel line. I added two 5/8" thick rubber pads made out of rubber matting cut to fit perfectly inside the lip of the original factory fuel tank mats. This raises the height for the bottom of the tank and the fuel hose does not get squashed. I used 1 strap under each of the mats that go around the tank in the area that Moeller molded into the tank that seems to be meant for some hold down strap of some sort. That prevents side to side motion but the rubber mats are very grippy already. There is still about 2 inches of space between the top of the tank. I filled that with 2 pieced of some thick dense foam that I notched to lock onto the SS tubes that are under the seat. The white color is OK. I guess if it really bothered you you could paint the tank with Krylon fusion but the paint may come off if you drip some gas while filling. I painted a black battery box with Krylon fusion before and it came out nice.
